“I live in an elderly community in Brighton, MA and I was diagnosed with osteoporosis over 15 years ago. I enjoy going to activity groups, concerts in the community and taking walks with my friends.
A few months ago, I had fallen in the middle of the night when I got up to use the bathroom. I didn’t feel immediate pain, in fact, I was able to get up and go back to bed. When I woke up in the morning however, I felt severe pain in my back. I tried taking ibuprofen for a few days but it only helped a little. I was still unable to sit, stand or walk without feeling severe back pain.
I was referred to take an MRI and it was determined that I had a fractured vertebra. I came to the Franklin Pain and Wellness Center and was told that I needed the Kyphoplasty procedure. I was told that this entailed a short procedure in which the fractured part of my back would be filled with a special cast.
Immediately after the procedure I felt relief and after 2 weeks I was completely back to doing my regular activities. It was such an easy procedure with so little recovery time that I would do it again in a second and anyone who has a back fracture should get this done!”
