Balloon Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure, which can fix the spinal fractures caused from issues like cancer, benign lesions or osteoporosis. This procedure uses orthopedic balloons to gently raise the fractured vertebra to attempt to revert the back to the correct position. Catheters are inserted into the broken bone and a balloon is inflated in order to restore height in the vertebrae and create a cavity in the treated vertebrae. After the balloon is removed, bone cement is then injected into the newly created cavity. The bone cement stabilizes the break and provides pain relief along with increased function.
How Does Balloon Kyphoplasty Compare to Other Treatment?
Balloon Kyphoplasty is found to have greater effectiveness than any other non-surgical option for treating vertebral compression fractures. The patients treated with this procedure have greater and faster improvement in back pain relief, quality of life, and functionality one month after the procedure.
What Are the Benefits of Balloon Kyphoplasty?
This procedure has a number of benefits over other alternate options. Some of these benefits are:
- Faster pain relief
- No side effects
- Minimal risks with the procedure
- Resume your work within five days
